Vaider Group supports European industry’s call for a competitive EU ETS framework
15 October 2026
Vaider Group supports the call by Europe’s energy-intensive industries for EU leaders to prioritise industrial competitiveness in the upcoming review of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). The joint letter, also supported by FEVE – the European Container Glass Federation, highlights the need for policies that protect European manufacturing while enabling continued investment in decarbonisation.
Ahead of the European Council meeting on 15–16 October 2026, representatives of Europe’s energy-intensive industries have addressed a joint letter to EU Heads of State and Government, urging them to give the EU ETS review the attention it deserves.
The signatories warn that the reform will have a lasting impact on production costs, investment decisions and employment across European industry.
The letter calls for continued protection against carbon leakage through the free allocation of emission allowances, measures to prevent a steep reduction in these allowances, and an effective Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), including a solution for exports.
It also highlights the need for competitive energy prices, adequate infrastructure, financing and policies that support industrial investment.
Why this matters for the glass industry
Glass manufacturing is an energy-intensive process. Reducing its environmental impact requires significant investment in production technologies, energy infrastructure and new solutions.
At Vaider Group, we are already investing in more energy-efficient glass production and technologies that support decarbonisation. These investments are an important part of our long-term development.
We support the industry’s position that European manufacturers need a regulatory and economic framework that allows them to remain competitive while continuing to invest in lower-carbon production.
