A Bottle Inspired

Slovenia is known for its high-quality drinking water, and tap water has long been a familiar part of the dining experience in Slovenian restaurants. This inspired a collaboration between Vaider Group (formerly HRASTNIK1860) and JRE Slovenia, an association of leading chefs and restaurateurs.

The idea was simple: to give Slovenian tap water a glass bottle that would be equally at home on the tables of fine dining restaurants as the food and wine served alongside it.

The result was RE◦water, a reusable glass bottle developed specifically for restaurant use, with a design that reflects the purity and movement of water.

Glass was a natural choice for the project. It can be recycled repeatedly without losing its inherent quality, while a reusable bottle offers restaurants an alternative to single-use water packaging.

The Design

The defining feature of the RE◦water bottle is its specially developed punt. By refracting light through the glass and water, the punt creates an optical effect that changes as the bottle moves. The water appears to shimmer, recalling the reflections and movement of water in nature.

Beyond its visual effect, the punt also gives the bottle a stable base. Its design symbolises the diversity of Slovenia’s water sources and landscapes.

The rest of the bottle follows a minimalist approach. Its wider upper section gives the shape a distinctive profile while also serving a practical purpose: making the bottle suitable for low-energy machine washing.

These details were considered with daily restaurant use in mind, where a bottle needs to be both visually appealing and practical to handle, clean and reuse.

Recognised for Its Design

RE◦water brings together the original idea behind the collaboration: serving Slovenian tap water in a reusable glass bott.le designed specifically for the restaurant environment.

The bottle’s restrained shape allows the water to remain the focus, while the optical effect created by the punt gives it a recognisable character.

In 2023, RE◦water received the Red Dot Award for Product Design, recognising the design developed through the collaboration between JRE Slovenia and Vaider Group.

The project demonstrates how thoughtful glass bottle design can address practical requirements while giving an everyday product a more considered presentation.
