A Slovenian Story

Monologue Gin brings together the flavours and character of Slovenia, a country whose landscape stretches from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea.

The gin was created by renowned Slovenian chef Tomaž Kavčič of Gostilna pri Lojzetu, located at Zemono Manor in the Vipava Valley. His ambition was to develop a spirit rooted in Slovenian nature, ingredients and culinary tradition.

After three years of development, Monologue Gin was introduced as a distinctive expression of the country’s botanical diversity.

Produced using traditional distillation methods, the gin combines eleven carefully selected, hand-picked herbs and spices. High-quality cereal spirit is blended with natural extracts of juniper berries and selected botanicals, which undergo maceration before being distilled in traditional stills.

The result is a gin with pronounced Mediterranean herbal notes and a subtle saline character, reflecting the meeting of Slovenia’s different natural environments.

Monologue Gin gained international recognition in 2018, receiving a Double Gold Medal at the Great American International Spirits Competition.

Simply

For Tomaž Kavčič, the bottle and its visual identity needed to reflect the same principles as the gin itself: natural ingredients, purity and a strong connection to the Slovenian landscape.

The packaging follows a restrained, predominantly black-and-white design. Its clean appearance allows the product name and carefully selected decorative details to take centre stage.

Distinctive typography draws attention to the Monologue name, while a delicate illustration of a green leaf introduces a subtle reference to the botanicals used in the gin.

The bottle is complemented by cylindrical outer packaging, designed in the same visual language. Together, they create a consistent presentation in which the glass, typography and graphic elements support the story of the spirit.

Rather than relying on elaborate decoration, the design uses a small number of recognisable details to express the character of Monologue Gin.

Reflects the Spirit

To bring the packaging concept to life, Tomaž Kavčič worked with Vaider Group (formerly HRASTNIK1860) on the development of the glass bottle.

The collaboration focused on creating packaging that would complement the gin’s carefully developed identity and convey the purity of its ingredients.

An important part of the project was understanding the customer’s expectations and assessing the available development and production options. Vaider Group’s development, technical and manufacturing specialists worked together to evaluate the feasibility of different solutions.

The final bottle brings together the clarity of glass and the understated design chosen for Monologue Gin. Its appearance complements the cylindrical outer packaging, allowing the product to maintain a recognisable identity across both elements.

For Kavčič, the collaboration was also an opportunity to work with a Slovenian glass manufacturer on a product closely connected to the country’s natural and culinary heritage.

Monologue Gin demonstrates how the bottle can become part of a spirit’s story, supporting its identity without distracting from the product itself.
