Five Generations

The story of Francoli Grappa began in Val Chiavenna, Italy, where master distiller Luigi Guglielmo Francoli started distilling spirits in the second half of the 19th century.

In the early 1950s, he moved to Ghemme in Piedmont, where he was soon joined by his four brothers. Together, they established Fratelli Francoli, laying the foundations for a family business that has passed its knowledge and passion for grappa from one generation to the next.

Today, the distillery is managed by the fifth generation of the Francoli family, continuing a tradition built on craftsmanship, experience and the quality of its spirits.

The company focuses on grappa made from grape varieties typical of Piedmont, including Nebbiolo, Moscato, Brachetto and Arneis. Its aged grappas mature in traditional wooden casks, preserving an important part of the distillery’s production heritage.

A Distillery with Sustainability

Alongside its commitment to traditional grappa production, Distillerie Francoli has invested in measures to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

The distillery uses plant-based fuels, makes full use of grape pomace and reuses water employed in its production processes. It has also supported reforestation in Costa Rica as part of its efforts to address carbon emissions.

Photovoltaic panels provide another source of renewable electricity, contributing to the company’s longer-term ambition to become more energy self-sufficient.

Distillerie Francoli was also recognised as the first grappa distillery to achieve carbon-neutral status through the Impatto Zero® programme.

These initiatives reflect the company’s approach to combining its distilling heritage with greater environmental responsibility.

Glass Packaging

For Vaider Group (formerly HRASTNIK1860), environmental responsibility and continuous improvement have long been important considerations in glass manufacturing.

The company monitors its products and production processes and invests in technologies designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Understanding the priorities and challenges of customers in the spirits industry is an important part of this approach.

The collaboration with Distillerie Francoli brought together two companies with a shared interest in quality, technical expertise and more responsible production.

An important factor in securing the project was Vaider Group’s ability to support the customer throughout the development process. Its development, technical and production specialists assessed different options and their feasibility, working towards a solution that could meet the project’s requirements.

The project demonstrates the value of close cooperation between a spirits producer and its glass packaging manufacturer, particularly when product quality, technical feasibility and environmental considerations all form part of the decision-making process.
