“We want to reach out to all stakeholders in the wine community, from producers and processors, distributors, sommeliers, end-users, and everyone in between. Together we can pave a sustainable future for wine and we are convinced that the project of the JRE and the Vaider Group is a step in the right direction.“

Glass packaging accounts for a significant share of wine’s carbon footprint. For premium wines, where bottles often weigh more than 620 g, reducing the amount of glass used offers an opportunity to lower emissions without compromising the wine’s presentation.
This was the starting point for a collaboration between Vaider Group (formerly HRASTNIK1860) and JRE – Jeunes Restaurateurs.
In 2024, the partners introduced the sustainability manifesto A Toast to a Sustainable Tomorrow at the JRE Congress in Paris. Supported by representatives of the wine, gastronomy, and glass industries, the initiative called for practical steps to reduce the environmental impact of wine packaging.
The aim was to develop a lighter wine bottle with a substantially lower carbon footprint, while retaining the appearance and functionality expected in the premium wine segment.
Re.Vine was developed in response to this challenge. Designed by Tanja Mudrinič from Vaider Group’s Design Studio and Gašper Puhan from JRE Slovenia, the bottle combines an optimised glass structure with lower-emission manufacturing.
Weighing approximately 490 g, Re.Vine uses less glass than many conventional premium wine bottles. Its geometry and wall thickness were carefully adjusted to reduce material consumption while maintaining stability and compatibility with standard bottling and logistics systems.
The manufacturing process also plays an important role. Vaider Group’s hybrid regenerative furnace combines natural gas with electrical energy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
Together, lightweighting and hybrid melting have enabled an approximately 42% reduction in production-related CO₂ emissions compared with the conventional production baseline used for the project. The remaining emissions are addressed through carbon offset projects, forming the basis of Re.Vine’s carbon-neutral claim.
In April 2026, Re.Vine reached another milestone with its first commercial application.
At the JRE Congress in Cologne, Vaider Group, JRE and Puklavec Family Wines presented Trois Femmes, a wine bottled in Re.Vine glass packaging.
The wine was created through a collaboration between three JRE sommeliers: Nina Bratovž, Katharina Röder, and Bethany DeLong. It is being introduced in selected JRE restaurants across Europe, bringing the original sustainability initiative into restaurant service.
The collaboration builds on an earlier joint project between Vaider Group and JRE, the award-winning RE.water bottle, developed for serving tap water in restaurants.
Re.Vine received the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026, recognising its material-efficient construction, balanced proportions and manufacturing approach.
The award highlights the relationship between the bottle’s geometry and material use, allowing for reduced weight while retaining its visual appeal and suitability for industrial production.
