Glass packaging has traditionally been designed to protect its contents, preserve product quality and communicate a brand’s identity. With e.Bottle, Vaider Group (formerly HRASTNIK1860) explored how glass could take on an additional role.
The e.Bottle concept combines glass packaging with electronic technology, creating opportunities for interaction between brands, products and consumers.
Developed as a smart packaging solution, e.Bottle incorporates radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology and integrated electronic monitoring elements. These features extend the possibilities of conventional packaging by connecting the physical bottle with digital information and services.
For brand owners, the concept offers an additional way to communicate with consumers beyond the information printed on a label.
The development of e.Bottle focused on bringing electronic components and glass packaging together in a single solution.
Rather than relying solely on external labels or accessories, the concept incorporates electronic identification and monitoring elements into the packaging itself.
The project also considered the potential reuse of these components, exploring how electronic technology could form part of a more flexible packaging solution.
Combining glass with electronic functionality required an approach that went beyond conventional bottle design and manufacturing.
Alongside the bottle’s physical characteristics, the development process had to account for the integration of additional technology and its intended use.
The result was a concept demonstrating how glass packaging could accommodate new functions while continuing to serve its primary purpose as a container.
For brands, connected packaging offers opportunities to make product information and communication more accessible.
Instead of limiting information to the available space on a bottle, digital connectivity can provide an additional channel through which consumers engage with a product.
The e.Bottle concept was developed to explore these possibilities, bringing together glass packaging, electronic identification and digital communication.
It also demonstrated how packaging innovation could extend beyond appearance and material properties to include new forms of functionality.
Through e.Bottle, Vaider Group explored the potential of smart glass packaging and the role that digital technology could play in the future development of packaging solutions.
The project received international recognition, winning Gold at the German Innovation Award in 2021 and a Red Dot Award in 2022. Both distinctions marked important milestones in the development of e.Bottle and its introduction as a smart glass packaging concept.
